Barely a Review: KNOCKED UP
KNOCKED UP is the funniest movie since BORAT. Now BORAT was only released 7 months ago, but whatever, it's still the truth. Judging by the trailers that played in front of KNOCKED UP we are in for a slew of comedies over the rest of the year. I doubt any of them will be packed with as many memorable lines, and honest to God heart, as can be found in KNOCKED UP.
After many supporting turns on TV and film, Seth Rogen shows he's got both the comedic timing and the charm to be a leading man. Katherine Heigl is more than just window dressing here. Her role as a suddenly pregnant career woman has far more depth than one would expect from a typical comedy. Rogen and Heigl are backed up nicely by a terrific cast, most notably Paul Rudd who nails his part as Heigl's brother-in-law who offers Rogen a lot of insight as to what to expect from fatherhood.
Heigl's character works for the E! channel which leads to a whole slew of celebrity cameos. There's also a lot of familiar faces who pop up in all sorts of different roles. I will say I was quite saddened that at no time did Heigl have her Uncle Casey show up to lend his support and guidance.

Knocked Up is the funniest movie ever. I loved everything about it. Apatow is a master at casting his tv shows and films with the perfect people.
If you haven't already done so, you should check out the Knocked Up deleted scenes that are available on youtube. There is a deleted scene with Dr. Kuni that is funny as shit and another one with Jonah that's great as well.
Superbad (which was written by Seth and produced by Apatow) looks like it's going to be pretty fucking hilarious too.
sigh, i gotta say that Knocked Up is hilarious for about the first 75% but then grinds to a SCREECHING halt in the last 25%.
While I respect Apatow's development in his characters and all the real life experience that went into the movie, it really slows down and stops being funny in the last 30-40 minutes.
I had the same problem with 40 year old virgin when it started to "get real" near its end.
I really think Leslie Mann's character's journey was pretty unnecessary as well...but hey she is Apatow's wife.
The best parts of the film though were Rudd and Apatow riffing off each other. That was classic.
well faze you always have been a heartless s.o.b.; i thought it was solid (and hilarious) all the way through the credits, sentimentality included.
I did think 40 YEAR OLD VIRGIN ran out of steam after 90 minutes but I didn't feel that way with KNOCKED UP at all. From start to finish it maintains a ton of laughs.
yea, I still feel that Dumb and Dumber is the greatest comedy of all time, so that may give you some insight into why I keep disliking the second halves of Apatow's last two films.
Blades of Glory was a far more even comedy compared to Knocked up in my opinion. Even though both films are very very different.
